Julia McGuigan, a full-time art teacher at AL and mother of three boys, has managed a small business for 10 years: “Julia M. Illustrates.”
McGuigan promotes her business at markets. You can find her at the Omaha Farmers Markets, the Omaha Flea Market, the Midtown Merry Market, and the Frostmas Fest.
“My inspiration happened abroad at a gift shop in England, where I discovered an artist named Libby Walker who creates art of her city,” said McGuigan. “I went on another trip, and decided it’s what I dreamed of doing.”
Running a small business, although it is hard work, can be very rewarding. McGuigan’s hard work and multitasking show and inspire.
“I’ve gained a lot from my business, money to support my family, and relationships in the community, which have led to connections and even job offerings,” said McGuigan.
This art teacher spends her summers inspiring other artists. She’s offered workshops in the past, and if you’re lucky, you could join a workshop and be inspired by her, just as you are in her classes.
