Senior Myah Wright can balance her time in school while participating in two sports. Although her sports fall into different seasons it’s important for her to keep her grades up before, during, and after the season.
Keeping up with her grades isn’t always her strong suit. She tends to even struggle during the seasons of her sports. “When I was in wrestling season, I was failing my classes and only had two weeks to get them up. Luckily I got them up in time,” Wright said.
To achieve in her sports she has to be able to stay focused. “[I’m in] track and wrestling and I see myself contributing to them by staying consistent and working hard,” the senior said.
Being a student-athlete means being positive towards others and not bringing them down. “I bring a positive energy so everyone around me has a good day and vibe,” she said.
When playing multiple sports, wrestling coach Matt Daniels said it is important to be a team leader and help the underclassmen grow and be a team player. “ She has fun with wrestling,” Daniels said. “What makes her stand out is the fact she was able to wrestle multiple weight classes to help our team. She worked with numerous partners to help the underclassmen get better.”
Her track coach Peter Kilburg agrees. A leader can help everyone improve and do their best to their ability. Taking feedback is helpful to underclassmen and upper it shows you have room for improvement.
“Myah is a great teammate because she always brings a positive attitude to the track team,” Kilburg said. “She consistently works very hard and is always listening to how to get better through constructive criticism. Myah is a great leader and is mature well beyond her years, leading the underclassmen seeing a great role model. While not a very vocal leader, she certainly leads by example in practices and at meets.”
Myah has some goals she would like to accomplish before leaving Abraham Lincoln High School. “My grades, My 100m, 200m, and 400m time in track, and trying harder in class,” she said.
