Whether it’s in the classroom, on the field, or just in passing, Etienne Higgins has made his presence known to many. This being his senior year at Abraham Lincoln High School, he has to make the next big step in life: college. Higgins made his choice to go to North Dakota University to study psychology and continue to play football.
Choosing a college is a big step in many students’ lives. “I feel like it’s a big step in my life,” said Higgins. “It’s one of the things I want to do for a long time is play some sort of sport in college. God has blessed me with the opportunity to be able to do that.”
Higgins is well know for his performance on the field but as he said, “I try to tell people that football is a part of a story, you know what I mean, it’s a chapter of the story. Wherever it ends up going that’s what’s gonna happen. I’m not really thinking anything NFL or anything like that. I’m just trying to take it one step at a time. . . I just want to get a degree, get through college and have fun doing it, playing football and stuff like that.”
Higgins has a goal in mind that he is excited to start this next chapter in his life.
“I’m really looking forward to studying psychology, getting more in-depth with that,” said Higgins. “I feel like all my life I’ve wanted to help kids who have had my situation. What I want to do and who I want to be, I can only get there through college and I feel like getting there while playing football . . . it’s just like perfect fit for me.”
He still has until May before he leaves high school but he has a few words for those who have helped him on his journey so far.
“Obviously I’m thankful for everybody who have poured time into me. Teammates, coaches, family. It has been a long ride, you know what I’m saying, but it’s been enjoyable. Just saying thank you to everybody. It’s too many people to name everybody. Like what I was saying it took a lot of people to get here, not just me.”
