I always wanted to work with sharks to help them, take care of them when they are sick, and help them not go extinct. If I can help and understand why they are going extinct, I can try to fix it as best as I can. And I always love learning facts and knowing so much more.
We need to do more to help tiger sharks not go extinct at all because they are a great thing, and they do a lot for us. Tiger sharks help flourishing seagrass meadows by keeping populations of sea cows in check. How? Swimming around the shallow seagrass meadows, these sharks serve as crowd-controllers and prevent overgrazing by marine creatures such as turtles or dugongs.
Why are sharks dangerous? Well, the reason is because of their diet: crabs, shellfish, lobsters, squid, bony fish, small sharks, skates, rays, porpoises, turtles, marine birds, and mammals. A large number of inorganic artifacts and garbage associated with humans have been found in the stomachs of tiger sharks as well. And that’s one of the reasons why they are dangerous, because of new objects in their habitat near human-populated areas. So they are dangerous. They are usually friendly and rarely attack humans.
So, why is the tiger shark called the tiger shark? Well, one reason is its body shape of the shark, as well as its lines on its back. The shark lines start to fade slightly when they get to adulthood, however, they are very noticeable in juveniles and at least partly visible throughout their lifetime. Also, did you know that tiger sharks are going extinct because of several human-related threats, including overfishing, bycatch in fisheries, and habitat degradation? Climate change is also shifting tiger sharks.
Did you know that tiger sharks have up to 50 teeth! That’s way more than humans’ 20 to 32 teeth. The reason tiger sharks have more teeth than us is that most sharks have between five and 15 rows, and the whale shark has a whopping 3,000 teeth in its mouth! But because those teeth aren’t attached to their gums on a root-like ours, they lose around a tooth every week. But they also need them for food. Tiger sharks were found throughout temperate and tropical waters.
Tiger sharks are the fourth-largest shark species. They can grow 18 feet (5.5 m) long and weigh over 2,000 pounds (900 kg), and can live up to 27 to 40 years old. Their habitat is fluoride-laden tropical water worldwide, as well as warm waters like the Gulf of Mexico and Australia. Sharks like water because of their body temperature, which is around 75-80°F (24-27°C). Cold water can negatively impact their metabolism and physical activity. Here are some random facts about tiger sharks:
- Tiger sharks are one of the largest species of shark
- Like a cat, a tiger shark can see well in dim light
- Tiger sharks are social creatures
- Tiger sharks have very distinct marks on their skin
- Tiger Sharks can detect electric fields from really far away, like several hundred meters away
The reason I love sharks is because of all the interesting facts about them, and I want to show the world that sharks are not so dangerous; it’s the people who make them look bad. People are making them go extinct, such as 167 species. Because of people overfishing and accidental killings, and not doing so much to save their instincts, it hurt me to know that these poor sharks are not getting the help to help their instincts have always loved sharks, all of their interesting facts, and how cute they are.
The first tiger shark was found in 1822, and they named it Squalus Cuvier. But then, later in 1837, they named it Müller, and Henle suggested the name Galeocerdo tigrinus. Finally, in 1822, they first called it the tiger shark.
