We here at the AL Echoes pride ourselves on echoing vigorously, justly, and without prejudice. But our staff has been kept small and forced to be underknown, undervalued, and under the thumb of authoritarian figures for so long. We were at a loss for how to improve our echoes and grow them in both numbers and power. Finally, I, Dean Pope, have solved it. The Kirn Cave!
We have begun running an afterschool club at Kirn Middle School dedicated to teaching students the importance of journalism and how to write for a newspaper. While it is small right now, we are growing and soon will be publishing stories from the Kirn Cave on the AL Echoes.
With this new club, we hope to encourage kids to join the paper once they reach high school. To all our loyal readers: if you know a Kirn student who is looking for a sense of community and a place to express themselves through writing, graphic design, or photography, please encourage them to join us in the Cave! It’s a space where they can learn new skills that will benefit them in the future, as well as gain a deeper understanding of their school. After all, that’s where Echoes began.
