Many people go on diets for many reasons such as health concerns, improving physique, increased energy levels, and even to prevent animal suffering. Adjusting your eating habits to completely new ones comes with difficult challenges. Kelso Heather, a Social Studies teacher at Abraham Lincoln High School, said “It was an adjustment.”
“There was a week where I limited my physical activity while my body adjusted. If I did too much before I could break my fast, I would feel light-headed and shaky,” Kelso said.

The article “To Fast or Not to Fast” states, “Early results have found that some types of fasting may positively affect aspects of health like blood sugar control, blood pressure, and inflammation. But fasting can also cause weight loss.”
Many people give up meat for the cause of animals this diet is called being vegan.
The article “Why go vegan?” states, “Preventing the exploitation of animals is not the only reason for becoming vegan, but for many, it remains the key factor in their decision to go vegan and stay vegan. Having emotional attachments with animals may form part of that reason, while many believe that all sentient creatures have a right to life and freedom.”
The Mediterranean diet is one of the most well-liked by people. The base of the Mediterranean diet is plant-based prevents cardiovascular diseases, promotes healthy aging, and can even increase a person’s life span.
The article “8 Scientific Health Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet” states, “We already know from the PREDIMED study that eating in a Mediterranean fashion lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease in some people. Well, the diet may also reduce stroke risk in women, though researchers didn’t observe the same results in men, according to a cohort study.”
People often get confused about the Vegan diet. Abraham Lincoln High School Social studies teacher, Tyler Brietzke is on this diet.
“The adventure into veganism began for me as an ethical issue. I’ve always had a hard time dealing with and understanding the American food system and its ties to factory farming,” Brietzke said. “Factory farming, in my opinion, is the most unethical way to raise and slaughter animals. Don’t mistake this for small farm operations.”
The article, “The Vegan Diet: Advantages and Disadvantages ” states, “People often confuse veganism with other non-meat diets. What sets a vegan diet apart from pescatarian, eggetarian, vegetarian, etc., is that it excludes all animal products. That’s not just meat but also fish, poultry, eggs, dairy, and fat like lard, tallow, and schmaltz.”
The majority of diets have many benefits and disadvantages all depending on what you are seeking.
