This year, a new sports club has emerged amongst the ALHS students. That would be UFL; Ultimate Frisbee League. This particular sports club has gathered many students from all grades to create teams and go against each other in frisbee games. The leagues are created by a team captain who is able to pick and choose whoever they would like to be on their team.
UFL is not like any other sports club, however. Unlike most clubs who have a teacher come up with the idea, this time we have students creating the club. The mastermind behind this idea would be Junior Daniel Hornberg. Daniel is a fan of Frisbee himself, and there is a back story to this club.
“The idea aspired during cross country,” Hornberg said. “We found a frisbee and just thought ‘Why not’.”
This event pushed the idea into the group Daniel was playing with and it just continued to grow into more and more people eventually turning into a club.
The UFL is an ongoing event that has tournaments with each team going against each other. There are multiple teams and they each stick to their qualities within their groups and they each play an important part while sticking to teamwork.
“We look for teammates that value being there and showing up, and also good sportsmanship,” said Junior Cooper Haddox.
Whether you are in it for the sport, or in it for the fun, or the great sportsmanship these amazing leagues all play a big part in this new and improved club. It holds unique qualities as frisbee being played as a sports club in high school isn’t very common and is a very new surfaced idea. UFL is expected to continue and grow throughout the years and possibly aspire to even more interest.
