Abraham Lincoln’s first track meet is today at the University of South Dakota. The girls are led by head coach Peter Kilburg.
“With it being the first meet of the year, I just want to see the girls go compete and give it their all,” he said
The team has some strong leadership between returning seniors and juniors.
“Hopefully by the end of the season we are competing for an MRAC Championship and taking a solid group of girls to state,” the coach said.
This year Kilburg says fans should expect a well-rounded team.
“Sprints, distance, to field events,” he said. “We have some great returning conference placers and we bring in a very strong freshman class that I feel like will allow us to compete immediately.”
Sophomore Maria Perez is preparing for the season by eating healthier, sleeping more, and taking care of her physical health.
“You should expect me to become a better athlete with a great mentality,” she said.
The team is hoping to compete for a MRAC Championship in the beginning of May and has other goals as well.
“I want to make it to state,” Perez said. “I also want to improve my times from last year.”
