The boys basketball team will look for their second victory over Waukee this season Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The stakes are high this time, as the winner will qualify for the state tournament.
The last time the Lynx (19-2) made the tournament was in 2021 when Josh Dix led the team to a 19-5 record and a Missouri River Conference title.
“This may be the most versatile team we have had. 2016 had stars like Trey Bonner and (Kyle) Crowl, and 2021 was led by Josh Dix,” head coach Jason Isaacson said.
AL will have to face a tougher Warrior squad, as last time their leading scorer and rebounder, Evan Jacobson, was out with a rolled ankle.
“I’m excited to play them,” senior forward Creighton Bracker said. “They didn’t really think it was fair with him (Jacobson) out.”
“The nice thing is we prepped for him to play last time, so it won’t be much different,” Isaacson said. “Our guys represent AL as a whole, and CB as a whole.”
The athletic department has a fan bus for AL students, leaving at 4:30 p.m. to go to Waukee, but will cancel if school is canceled. However it works out, the players are still hoping for fans to cheer them on.
“We want Lynx fans to come and show up,” junior guard Easton Klement said. “They are like our sixth man and they give everyone on the court energy.”
