The Lynx boys’ basketball team has started off the season hot, with a record of 13-1, their only loss a 3-point loss against Bellevue West, the #6 team in Nebraska. The team is led by senior forward Jake Babbitt, who is averaging 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists per game. Babbitt transferred in from Millard South before his junior year, and has made significant impacts on the Lynx these past two seasons.
“Millard South was great, but the coaching staff here has just been amazing,” Babbitt said. “I love playing with the guys I’m with at AL now.”
Not only has Babbitt contributed a key role on the Lynx this year, but also averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds per game last year for the Lynx, where they reached substate finals, but lost to Waukee.
“It’s pretty great to be on a winning team,” Babbitt said. “I would rather score less and win a game than score more every game and lose.”
Babbitt has credited his improvements this year to his commitment to adding more preparation and inspiration to his game this year.
“I have gotten better at watching Hudl film and studying the game plan,” Babbitt said. “I also look up to (former NBA player) Kevin Garnett and the way he acts and executes on the court.”
These actions through preparation have shown up all throughout the season and his attitude and games, even being noticed by coaches.
“When Jake gets vocal on defense, the other guys follow his lead.” assistant coach Bryce Taylor said. “All the other guys start to talk on defense.”
As a leader, Babbitt uses his experience each game. He and the Lynx look to continue building off their great front half of the season and undefeated record in conference play.
