The AL dance team year show for the 2025-2026 season, was held on Thursday, March 5. Sophomore Maycee Levene not only dances for AL, but also dances for the dance studio Motion Works.
While in high school, Levene wants to choreograph more dances for the Lynx basketball team. “I want to help bring more energy to the school and help our team,” she said.
Although the 2026 season is over at AL, Motion Works is still having competitions. Levene competes in different categories ranging from lyrical jazz, hip-hop, ballet, production and pom.
“I like hip-hop a lot because it has fun facials and it has a lot of energy,” she said.
Between dancing at AL and Motion Works, Levene has a total of seven coaches. Each class has a different coach. She likes working with each of them. “The coaches inspire me to keep going,” she said.
Aside from her coaches, another big part of why Levene is so successful is because of her mom who had put her in dance at the young age of three.
“Ive been dancing since I can remember,” she said.
When it comes time to prepare to compete in a big event Levene makes sure to eat a good meal and listen to the music that she will be dancing to.
After high school, Levene really has her eyes set on Iowa Western where she would really like to continue dancing.
Levene only has two years left to dance at the high school level, but before she finishes she wants everyone to know that she leaves it all out on the floor.
“Dancing is something that I can always rely on, and the people that you meet through dance will always be there for you,” she said. “There are a lot of different age groups that I dance with and we all encourage each other.”
