Making his return as an assistant coach, math teacher Robbie Miller will join the ALHS girls soccer team. He replaces Madison Sola, who was named head coach for the upcoming season.
Miller has coached various teams for a total of 17 years, including the ‘18, ‘19, ‘21, and ‘22 state qualifying ALHS girls soccer teams.
“It’s like I’m shaking the rust off, or stepping into an old pair of shoes,” Miller said.
Having played all positions in high school, Miller has a lot of insight into the game. Miller also stated that he believes he could beat fellow math teacher Joel Nelson in a 1v1, “easily.”
Miller believes that in order to have a successful season, the team should focus on their core values, which are work ethic, positivity, thankfulness, reliability, self awareness and commitment.
“It’s a beautiful game, I love it,” Miller said. “I find it similar to life, with the ups and the downs.”
With his evident knowledge and passion for the game, he is certain to have a notable impact on the team.
“I’m excited to have him back on the sidelines again,” Sola said. “He is a positive motivator. He has a million great ideas for team culture and skill improvement. I’m excited to have his wealth of knowledge on my side.”
The team kicks off the season next Tuesday vs. Bishop Heelan at 7 p.m. in Sioux City.
