After 15 years of being a Lynx, principal Bridgette Bellows is on a new path to the Kanesville Alternative Learning Center. Bellows said it was time for a change and different challenges. Bellows is very sad to be leaving what has felt like her home for many years but she’s also excited to see the new opportunities for her and others.
Besides being the head principal for 10 years, Bellows was also the assistant principal for 4 years and taught for 1 year.
Mrs. Bellows believes that although this is a big change for some people, it will be beneficial to her, Kanesville, and AL to have more possibilities and challenges for the future.
“I love it here but I’m also ready for kind of a different challenge or change,” Bellows said. “I think it’s good for the school to have new leadership too so I think it will be good all around, good for me but good for the kids and staff members here so that they get to learn and work with a new leader.”
Superintendent Dr. Vickie Murillo announced that the new principal is current Elkhorn south assistant principal Dr. Rachel Bruce Sagert. Bruce said she is very excited for the new opportunity and can’t wait to start in the fall.
“I love working with teachers and staff members to really create the best place for students to receive their education,” Bruce said, “I’m really looking forward to getting to know the students and the staff at AL and to help support all students to achieve their own goals so they are successful after high school.”
Dr. Bruce has been an educator for 19 years. She said she can’t wait to work here because of all the pathways and education that the Council Bluffs Community School District has for their students.
“I do think high school is so much fun, especially with all the different opportunities and the avenues that students have,” said Dr. Bruce. “So I’m really looking forward to getting to know kids through attending events and seeing them everyday.”
Dr. Bruce has already made an effort to introduce herself to the staff here at AL and plans to get to know all the students as best she can.
“I’m sure that staff and students are really going to miss Mrs. Bellows and I know that change can be hard but I think AL has a great team of really dedicated administrators, teachers, and staff who have already been really welcoming to me.”
