Students Cheyenna Rankin and Shalynn Ellis have started a senior capstone project to help homeless pets. They have decided to fundraise money and supplies in order to help the pets in need. The purpose of the event is to hand out supplies that were donated/bought.
The event is May 16, 1 pm-4 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Rankin and Ellis decided on this mission because they want to help show that homeless pets’ health matters too, with this event helping provide care and support for the animals.
“We saw a need in the community,” Ellis said. “Lots of pets needed help, and we all kind of agreed that we wanted to help.”
They noticed that many homeless people seem to care for their pets over themselves, so Ellis and Rankin want to try and ease their worries by providing food and water for the pets.
“Personally I’ve had financial troubles in the past,” said Rankin. “So I know what it’s like to have to worry about your pets, and I don’t want people to worry too much other than what they have to worry about.”
They have been planning this event for many months now and want it to be very successful to help the pets in need.
“This event is mainly catering for the homeless as we are giving out supplies and things that they need,” said Ellis. “So like cat food, dog food, treats, as well as water and probably food bowls.”
Rankin and Ellis are also accepting last-minute donations tomorrow.
