After 9 years at the helm of CBCSD, Dr. Vickie Murillo is resigning to return to her home state. In an email to CBCSD staff, she shared, “With a heavy heart, I am writing to share with you that I have submitted to the Board of Education my resignation as Superintendent to be effective at the end of this school year.”
She accepted a position as the superintendent in her hometown of Independence, Missouri.
“As happy as I am to be going back to the community I grew up in, I have had the best time leading the Council Bluffs district. I am so proud of the community and achievements earned throughout our district,” Murillo told the Echoes.
Over Murillo’s 9 years with Council Bluffs, she earned the position as one of the nation’s top 10 superintendents.
“The highlights of my journey with CBCSD have been the increase in our academic achievement following Covid and the development of our STEM school. I will continue to advocate and fundraise for the STEM school, I’m hoping the next superintendent will take over the project,” Murillo said.
