The 2026 Winter Olympics officially kicked off Feb. 6 and has already brought in millions of views daily. Every 4 years the Winter Olympics are held somewhere around the world and hosts multiple winter sporting events such as hockey, skating, luge, and bobsleigh. Every year more than 2 billion people watch the Winter Olympics.
Math teacher Claude Lang says that he is looking forward to every event.
“For the record, I will watch any event that is on,” said Lang. “But I like to watch downhill skiing, all the snowboarding events, aerials, and speed skating the most.”
Lang says that he will be rooting for the red, white, and blue..
“I will be rooting for the USA in all events. USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!” said Lang.
Assistant Principal John Crall says he’s most excited for downhill skiing and some other events.
“I typically enjoy watching the various men’s and women’s downhill ski events. I watched this week to see Lindsey Vonn compete,” said Crall.” I always peek in on curling because it’s interesting and reminds me of shuffleboard and bocce ball, which I enjoy playing. I also enjoy hockey, but probably won’t pay close attention until the medal rounds.”
Crall says that he will root for the USA and some other countries.
“Besides the USA, I wish Japan, England, and any underdog country that is poor and scrappy does well,” said Crall. ”As long as it doesn’t conflict with the USA.”
Math teacher Joel Nelson says that he will be enjoying multiple events but especially curling.
“Events that I enjoy watching for the Olympics in no particular order are curling, downhill skiing and speed skating,” said Nelson. “Curling is always exciting to me because of the technique they need to have to place them on the correct spot and knock out the other rocks.”
Economics teacher Myron Wilder says he will be looking forward to watching two events.
“I’m hoping to watch a lot of hockey but I also like watching the snowboarding events too,” said Wilder. “Of course I am also rooting for the good old USA.”
Science teacher Dan Whaley says he is looking forward to two events.
“I am looking forward to ice hockey and curling and am rooting for the USA,” said Whaley.
This year the Winter Olympics will last for 2 weeks and come to an end on Sunday Feb.22. Make sure to look out for your favorite events and to see where your country places on the olympic medal leaderboard.
