For years the idea of horror movies have changed dramatically. Horror movies originally started off being just scary and fake but they now can be funny, true stories, paranormal, and even mythical. Recently, a new idea for horror movies is to take kids’ cartoons and make them into horror movies. After watching multiple kinds of movies with this idea I have to say that it should not be continued.
One thing that I don’t like about these movies is that the stories themselves just don’t make sense. After watching these movies I always feel like the story or the plot is just ridiculous and should never have been written. In my opinion, to be a good horror movie it should have gore and it needs to have a decent story line which is why most Halloween movies have been successful but the kids cartoon horror movies don’t have that good story line which just feels like something huge is missing.
Another huge thing I don’t like is the ratings of these movies. Every time one of these movies comes out the reviews are horrible, for example “Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey” which was made in 2023 has a score of 3% from Rotten Tomatoes and a 2.9/10 score from IMDB or “The Mean one” which was made in 2022 and has a rating of 26% from Rotten Tomatoes and 4/10 from IMDB.
Another problem with the idea is the kids cartoon themselves. These cartoons are supposed to be happy and something kids enjoy but now the characters are being made into monsters. Some of the beloved cartoons like Winnie The Pooh, The Grinch, Pinocchio, and even Mickey Mouse have already been made into horror movies. I feel it is weird to change a happy cartoon into a gory horror movie which is one of the reasons I don’t like this idea
Some people may argue that it is okay to make these movies if parents don’t allow their kids to see them. Personally I do think it is okay if only the parents watch these movies but the problem is that parents can never really stop kids from watching something and if kids see these movies the image of these beloved cartoons will be changed and that is something that really doesn’t need to happen.
The one thing that I will give credit to the kid cartoon horror movies is that they are funny. When watching these movies they did have some funny parts but not due to comedy or funny dialogue it was all due to how ridiculous the scenes were. Everybody knows that when a scene is ridiculous you cannot help but laugh because they are so out of pocket or don’t make sense. This reasoning is why most people tend to watch these movies and probably why these movies are being made even with horrible ratings or no advertisement.
These types of movies always turn out to be horrible or don’t make sense and with these reasons I feel like they should conclude this idea. If these movies somehow change these problems and make them with good story plots I feel like they could make a good horror movie.
