I think people often think it’s Christmas right after Halloween, followed by Thanksgiving, and then back to Christmas. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love all the food except for green bean casserole or cranberry sauce, but that is not the point. The point is that Thanksgiving should be celebrated throughout November, not Christmas, which is celebrated throughout December.
Anita. Penner, a teacher at ALHS, is ready for peppermint mocha and some Christmas music by mid November. “By the time Nov. 15 hits, I’m ready for my peppermint mocha and some Justin Bieber Christmas tunes. I usually put my Autumn decorations on Aug. 1, so by November, I’m ready for the change,”. Penner said. “To me, Christmas is a season and Thanksgiving is a day. Christmas and winter in general bring such a cozy vibe that I genuinely love. It’s all about family, food, and being with the people you love most.”
I mean, I do love peppermint mocha, but it’s way too early for Christmas music in the middle of November. I do start Christmas shopping at the end of October, but it doesn’t mean I celebrate Christmas early. The latest I put my Christmas tree up is Nov. 28, right after Thanksgiving.
Junior Emily Wilson thinks that Christmas shouldn’t start in November, but she understands why people start Christmas early.
“Christmas starts the day after Thanksgiving,” said Wilson. “At max, the weekend after Thanksgiving is when my family puts up our decorations. I feel like if you bring Christmas really early by the time Christmas comes around you feel burnt out.”
I do think Christmas starts right after Thanksgiving, but some people celebrate it through the weekend, not just one day. Either way, you spend time with your family for both holidays.
Putting the decorations up is the fun part, but I will not be doing it on Thanksgiving because it is still a holiday and it should be celebrated for a whole month.
Junior Zoey Murry thinks it too early for Christmas in November, but she does like the pretty lights and decorations.
“I think Christmas in November can be fun, but also a little too early. I like seeing lights and decorations because they make everything feel cheerful, but I also think Thanksgiving deserves its own time to shine before Christmas takes over, “ said Murry.
Christmas truly begins when people start to feel the spirit of the season- when homes light up, music fills the air, and families come together to celebrate love and joy. While the exact date may vary for each person, Christmas officially states hearts are open to giving, gratitude, and togetherness.
