Well… It’s been a month into Trump’s term, and it’s already a strange time. From signing 37 executive orders in his first week in office that make everyone legally female, removing DEI which includes work from home, installing Elon’s “DOGE” which the existence of is inherently redundant/inefficient, pulling us from the World Health Organization, changing the “gulf of Mexico” to “gulf of America”, and many many more.
Today I’m not going to go on and on about the terrible things being done to the country by 34-time felon Trump or Musk and his “squad” like my other political pieces. If you want that, follow Robert Reich on any social media platform like Instagram or Bluesky. Instead, I’m talking about what is happening and what will happen to fight back, what you can do, what is being done, and what will be done.
First, the 50501 movement. On Feb. 5, there were 50 protests in all 50 states at the state capitals protesting Trump. The group recently emerged as a powerful voice against Dumpster Don, and organized another protest on Feb. 17 on what they called “Not My President’s Day”. Again, every state capital experienced a protest even in freezing weather. The group partnered with the organization Political Revolution, founded to support Bernie Sanders, and has been an incredible example of what Grassroots initiatives can achieve. They organized another event called “March 4th Against Monarchs” after the White House and Trump released imagery of Trump as a King, Julius Caesar, and others echoed dictator speech. Attending these protests, or even organizing them, is a fantastic way to show your outrage and has already been shown to work. Currently, the next ones are planned for March 15 and April 5.
Getting involved locally is another great way to support the systems the current Administration is trying to destroy. Actively protesting in your community encourages others to do the same. Recently, Council Bluffs experienced protests at the local Tesla dealership organized by Pottawattamie County Democrats. They have a private discussion group on Facebook, anyone can ask to join to get involved. There is a protest scheduled for the 15th at the Tesla dealership through the website Action Network. On March 8th, there was a protest in Omaha against DOGE flooding the streets.
Alternatively, some people take it upon themselves to organize and protest. There are people in Omaha who have been going out and protesting by themselves. People making banners for hanging on bridges, protests with signs, or just making their point known with bumper stickers.
There are many ways to protest. Spreading true and accurate information to your community is always a good way to protest. False Information is a key tool used by corrupt people to those who are the oppressed, unable to know how and why to fight back. Oligarchs, Fascist Regimes, Totalitarianism, all kinds of unjust and corrupt government see free and true press as their worst enemy.
