“Anaconda” recently landed on Netflix on March 27 after a couple of months in theaters and received mixed reviews. I watched “Anaconda” when it was released on Netflix and despite the mixed reviews and bad critics, I have to say that I loved the movie.
“Anaconda” follows best friends, Griff and Doug, and their dream to remake their all time favorite movie “Anaconda.” Both friends experience a midlife crisis and decide to finally go into the jungles of the Amazon with a full team of friends from their childhood. However, the team doesn’t expect to be the victim of a gigantic snake with a thirst for blood hunting them down.
The first thing that made me love this movie was the actors. The best friends in the movie are played by Jack Black and Paul Rudd and their team which includes characters Claire Simons and Kenny Trent is played by Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn. I have watched a lot of movies with these actors especially Black and Rudd and know that each one is a fantastic actor and is extremely funny so seeing the cast list of “Anaconda” and seeing them I knew this movie was going to be funny and I was right.
In this movie there were a lot of comedy and funny parts which I loved but it also had some jumpscares in it which I did love cause it kept me on my feet. I also enjoyed that it did have a good storyline and it kept me interested in it the whole time. There was one story plot that stood out a little from the main story but luckily it did not take much of the story line and somewhat matched with the original so that was fine with me.
Another thing that made me really love this movie was the soundtrack. In “Anaconda” the songs that were featured in the movie were “I don’t want to wait” by Paula Cole, “Have you ever seen the rain?” by John Fogerty, “Naveger” by Joao Selva, “Someday” by RIVER, “Back In Black” by AC/DC, and “Baby Got Back (Kris Malinin X Mophonics Remix) by Sir Mix A-Lot. There were also some original songs that were made specifically for this movie. I think the entire soundtrack fit well into the movie especially the end credits scene with the “Baby Got Back Remix”. The soundtrack really made the movie more lively and made you want to jam with it.
One thing that did stand out was the CGI. Throughout the movie especially when dealing with the gigantic anaconda the CGI was slightly bad but not as bad as it could have been. When there are scenes with the snake you can tell that it is completely CGI and is slightly lighter than the environment which makes it stand out more. I understand that CGI can’t make things look completely real but it should not be so obvious but luckily it never took away anything from the scene and I still enjoyed it.
I feel like this movie could have done a lot better when it comes to viewers if a little more advertisement went out. The only times I had seen an ad for this movie was once at the theaters when watching another movie and one ad on the tv two months later and that was it. It could have been that I only saw it two times but I know not a lot of people knew about this movie and so not a lot of people probably saw it in theaters right away.
Other than the CGI and little to no advertisements I would say that this movie was fantastic and had brilliant comedy relief but also keeps you on your feet. I would recommend this film to anyone who is looking for an action/ comedy packed movie and looking for some jumpscares.
